Max made this picture today. Without me asking what it was, he told me that this (indicating the dark green area) was Wonderland, and the pink stripe he is painting was Alice’s path through Wonderland. For those who haven’t seen the Disney movie lately, this is from a scene where Alice is lost in the dark woods, and finally finds a path to follow. I thought it was a great interpretation!

Max has just discovered how cool Legos are. He would play with them a bit before, but now he’s really excited by building new creations. This is his latest car design, sure to be a hit, in my opinion.

Max got a new Look-And-Find book today, and he and Daddy enjoyed reading it and finding all the stuff.

Today is Labor Day. We’re having Uncle Dennis over later for dinner, but this morning Daddy had to labor a bit in his office, so Max and I hit the beach. It was a beautiful day, and not crowded at all, despite the holiday.

Max wanted to dig a hole. When I asked him what he was building, he said “a K-Mart”. He’s never been in a K-Mart, but okay.

Building a K-Mart is hard work. Max mostly supervised while I fetched water.

This was Abigail the dog. When Max saw her digging for her ball, he ran over to her and told her to help us with the K-Mart!

This is Carl’s hat from some conference or something, and the only one Max will wear.

We took a field trip to a small, local airport today to look around and watch the planes land and take off.

Don’t you always take your harmonica to the airport?

Here’s Max, watching one of his new favorite movies, wearing his Halloween costume accessories. (He could always change his mind in the next few weeks, of course, but right now he seems set on what he wants to be.) He can’t watch the movie without them now! Guesses?

This week we were scheduled to start Playschool, but my friend Krysti was in a fender bender on the morning we had planned to get together. Max and I did some fun activities ourselves that morning instead. He had picked the topic of Treats– gum, ice cream, etc– to learn about, so we did some coloring and art, and read Curious George Visits An Ice Cream Shop. We played ice cream store with our play food and cash register. We also watched a video about how bubble gum is made.

(Note that when I asked him what flavor his dark ice cream was, he said “Black Poop Flavor”.)

Max is also really into his white board, which is on one side of his easel. He likes to color and scribble. Sometimes he makes circles or M shapes. Here he said, “Look at all the Ms hidden in my beauty!”.

(Note the left handed drawing. I’ve read that kids are supposed to be pretty set in their hand preference by age 3, but Max still uses both quite a bit. I’d say he slightly prefers his right, overall.)

We also made it to our first homeschooling park date, where Max rocked the slides like he owned the place. Nice to meet some other homeschooling families and see some friends.

Max is now allowed to chew gum, and is doing great about spitting it out. The other day he chewed one piece for an hour! He loves it like crazy.

Max: “What age are you?”

Daddy: “I’m 53.”

Max: “If I grow up and get to be that very, very old, then that will be very, extremely exciting!”
