We went to Max’s friend’s birthday party at the park today.

Examining berries.

Drains and aqueducts are big favorites right now, for whatever reason.

Max: “Mommy! A lollipop! I want that lollipop!”
Me: “Max, no. You already had a cupcake today. You can’t put too many sugary things in your body each day.”
Max: “Hmm. Let me go poop out that cupcake [walks toward bathroom], and that’ll make room for my lollipop.”

We went hiking at Max’s favorite park yesterday. I was cracking up watching him relax on his trike while Dad pushed him up the hills.

Free day at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum!
The current exhibition is Robot Zoo, where you get an inside peek into some amazing animal robots that you can control with buttons and levers.
Hi there, CrawDaddy.
One of the many lovely bird exhibits. So beautiful.
Catching tadpoles in the stream outside the museum.
The best part of the day.
Frog tongue!

Everyone’s flowers look beautiful right now. Max and I went on a flower walk to check them all out. He loved it, and kept yelling “Beeeauuuuutiful!” while running through peoples’ yards.

These are on our front porch. We grew them from seeds.

Max said this “purple poppy” was his favorite.

These dahlias were mine.

Max was as excited about the dandelions as the roses, hydrangeas, and irises.

We woke up to a gray morning today, and no plans. Carl was working, and Max and I were slipping into a completely lazy frame of mind, so we headed out to one of our favorite places for some fresh air. The whole day was energized after a nice walk.

Max discovered silt. He couldn’t stay out of it, and had a blast throwing it in the air, putting it all over himself, burying his hands, and even throwing it in his own hair (majorly cracked himself up). He was absolutely filthy.

Nearly every afternoon Carl and Max go on an adventure. Their destination: McWherter Corner. It’s a tiny little park, nearly invisible from the road, that they found one day on a walk. It’s nearly a mile from home and you have to cross a couple of busy streets to get their, so it’s quite exciting. Carl pushes Max on his trike, and they walk part of the way too (to go see some old cars parked here and there). Max seems to always come home with something: flowers for me, an old screw one day, bottlecaps, an old battery. You know, treasures.

We have no idea who this McWherter dude was, but we like his Corner.

Max: “Mom!”
Me: “Yeah?”
Max: “Mom, I’m just out here riding my trike in circles, drawing circles of love for you!”
Me: “Oh my gosh! That makes me feel so good! I love you, so much.”
Max: “I love you, too, Mom!”

We went out to the farm this afternoon to pick some apples, and do other farmy things.

Max and I went to a nearby water park today for a friend’s birthday party. I can’t believe we’ve never gone before– it was so fun! I didn’t get much in the way of pictures or video, of course, but we plan to go again. Max’s favorite part, not pictured here, was the Lazy River (or Lazy Aqueduct, as he liked to call it, tipping his hat to one of his current favorite things– aqueducts). We sat in a big inner tube, and rode around that thing at least ten times. Fun.

And two minutes after leaving the park, this is how my son looked in the back seat:
